Orange County Choppers and WordPress

If you are a fan of the show American Chopper, then you certainly know that the Two Companies focus on are Orange County Choppers and Paul Junior Designs. Well Both have a website. Both Rank very high in search engine categories. So i decided to take a look into how the web development companies are building their sites for several reasons.

• I think it is interesting to try and figure out how creative minds work.
• I love to learn and anything is worth checking out.
• I wonder why WordPress.org hasn’t said anything about the site running on WP
• Myself being heavily involved in the Las Vegas WordPress Community, I like sharing new and interesting stories with fellow WP developers.
• Last but not least. I am jealous.

So I simply Googled the OCC website and viewed the page source. I found that the page source has “/wp-content/” link rel’s in the head tags. Not only do you see those, but you see the “wp-content/plugins/” link rel’s as well. Anyone who works with WordPress on a regular basis knows that anything “WP-” means its running on WordPress. So like many WordPress enthusiasts, I looked for the login.php script and found exactly that.

It’s no surprise that the site is running on WP, but it is a surprise to find out that the site uses the “All In ONE SEO PACK by Michael Torbert of Semper Fi Web Design. It must be an amazing plugin is the developers of OCC are using it right? I think so. That’s just me.

It’s amazing to see such large websites running on WordPress, like ours, and see it being used successfully on a daily basis. If you want to get into details about it. Sure, there are some other great Content Management Systems out there. But WordPress has taken over in more then just the go to CMS. Being 100% editable and customized in any way shape or form truly makes WordPress amazing. Ok, back to OCC and WP.

Viewing the Wire framing, the site uses PODS UI to handle the sites core wire framing. The site also runs on a lot of JavaScript files and several .CSS files. I am starting to see what an amazing accomplishment this site is turning into. Next, I found the SEO Pack labels in the Header tags, and a Script generated by Cforms. I have no clue what CFORMS is, but it is worth checking out. Naturally there is a lot of Internet Explorer scripts installed in the header tags, making the site easy to view on any browser.

Looking father into the actual body of the index page, I see that all of the images are uploaded using the Media tab located in the Dashboard of WordPress. Why that sounds rather obvious to most WP freaks out there, I find it interesting that they chose to load files that way and not use a custom folder like “Bike images’, “stored images” etc.

Last but again not least, I made my way to the footer tags. It really excites me seeing what others do in the footer. There are literally thousands of different ways to configure a footer section. Not so much to do with the widgets they used, but the extra stuff located at the very bottom that is hidden. Like the Google Analytics account tracking information, how wraps are being used instead of simple Div classes and central WP PHP scripts located in the wp-includes folder.

For all of the readers out there thinking that I am bashing this site, lets stop there. I think it is impressive to see a Large Company Hiring another Large Company and trusting them to use a Content Management System, just like all of the Freelancers in the world use. Like Us.

Camping World Truck Series

October 15th, 2011 I went to the Camping World Truck Series here in Las Vegas. Amazing, first of all. It was hot, the track was hot and all of the drivers were ready to go out and get a win. I got there with about a half hour before the flag was dropped. The heat was intense. After a Lemonade and a snow cone, I was ready for the flag.

The race goes under green and then they come. Caution after Caution! Then all the sudden we have a green flag run of 60 laps and even managed a green flag stop, then another caution!!!

Hornaday wins and I am sad.
