Dear @WPEngine. I could use a glass to match my Nascar & WordPress Hosting Package
It is of no surprise that I am a Nascar addict. I’m also a WordPress Addict. I love the motor sport more than I have loved most things I’ve ever loved. Yes, more than hockey. Sorry Super Mario. So for Christmas I got a Play Station 3 (PS3). The system came with a few games that I played once. I did get a Nascar game, except it wasn’t featuring racing the high banks of Daytona or the short chutes of Bristol. It was all about Crashing and wrecking. It’s a fun game never the less. Also included in my package was NHL 2013. Super awesome I must say. I probably spent 2 whole months playing hockey online. Then I purchased a game that I already owned, but on another system. Nascar: The Game. It’s an amazing game first and foremost. I played that longer than I played hockey. Then one day, I’m watching a NASCAR race on T.V. and there is a commercial for the newest Nascar game in their lineup. Nascar The Game: Inside Line. Man how I have not been able to put this game away!
Since getting this game, I have raced a full season. Winning of course in my rookie season. I have raced all of the games that the software company builds into the game. Let me take a minute and talk to you about the best feature of this game, besides being able to design your own race car. The company behind this game, Activision, builds a new scenario each week that you can play out and change the history of Nascar forever. Take the last race of the 2011 year. Carl Edwards needs to beat Tony Stewart in order to clinch the Nascar championship. In real life, he failed. In the game, you have a chance to drive as Carl and race Tony to the line for the win. What an awesome feature.
So now that is out of the way. One of my other features of the game that I enjoy would be the online game play. I get to race with others from around the world. Yes, that’s right, there are others like me who would race Nascar online with others and they really want to play the game. Not just spin people out or ruin things for everyone. They join private races, run more than 200 laps and even help people out when someone has the wrong set up on their car. Now that’s something we can talk about. The set up. See each track is unique. Even though Talledega and Daytona are the same size and shape, the tracks are of different age, made up of different asphalt compounds and they have different bumps through the corners. So you need to adjust the tire pressure, ride height of the car and balance the car. This is important because one tiny adjustment the wrong way can separate you from everyone else. That’s why Jimmy Johnson, Kyle Busch and Matt Kenseth are on the top of their game right now. Their teams balance a race car better than anyone.
Back to the online game play. So here you can see why I love to race online. About a week ago, I’m racing online. Minding my own business as usual. This player comes online and he had an awesome paint scheme. It was a Budweiser car from 2003. Now, video games do not let the alcohol paint schemes show up in the game. SO if you want one, you’re gonna have to make it. Which is awesome, because there are some talented people out there. The only trick here is that you have to do it with their editor. It’s easy once you get the hang of it. It took me 3 days to learn. Now, I’m making paint scheme’s left and right. So I ask the guy a few questions and all the sudden I’m not online racing anymore. I’m in the editor designing some things.
As most of you know. I’m a huge fan of WordPress. I live and breathe WordPress. So to no surprise, I start making a WordPress Car. Pictured below, the first car I created was the baby blue #66 WordPress car. It took me about an hour to make my own version of the WP logo. After that I decided to put that logo in every place possible. After a few minutes, I made a new car and finally moved the logo to the appropriate positions. I was very happy. I won a few races and I know I am the only player online with a WordPress themed car. See what I did there? If you didn’t I’ll catch you up. WordPress uses a “Theme” to make your website look amazing and function properly. So the “Theme” I used on my car matches the theme of my site, This one.
To go along with themes and WordPress, my other favorite thing about WP would be all of the companies around the content management system. Companies like GeekStretWP.com, WPEngine.com and 9seeds.com. Since all of my sites are switching hosts, Hostgator to WPEngine, I figured I would make a WPEngine car. Well for that, and because I really would like to have a WPEngine glass to match my stickers, shirt and now Nascar.
The Paint Scheme took me about 4 hours to complete. If you have an idea of how photoshop works, then you know how you can stack layers and move things around. That’s basically what I had to do here. But it take longer because the PS3 doesn’t have the RAM my Mac does (32gb). SO I made a few paint schemes, I even added the Founder of WPEngine’s name to the car. Making it look like Ben Metcalfe is the driver. The other name is Mitch. Mitch is my puppy who inspired me to build a animal rescue website. He is a fast driver. I’ll say that.
