I love the months of February and March. Racing starts back up for another 10 month run. I usually get to go to Phoenix and Las Vegas, or Las Vegas and Fontana for Nascar. Usually we do all three. And then two weeks, or a week if it’s after Fontana, the NHRA brings its 8,000 horsepower cars to the city of Sin. All for a very low price (yeah right) and lot’s of cheap beer. Sarcasm is to be applied to that last sentence.
So this year was no different. The #4 wins at Phoenix, the #2 wins in Vegas and the #18 (MY DRIVER) wins at Fontana. What a crazy 4 weeks that was.
I do not like having to cheer for a driver whom I am not a regular fan of. It’s a better idea to list the names of drivers I do like vs. the ones I don’t. At the same time, I do like seeing someone new win for a change. Since I’ve been going to Nascar races I’ve seen Jimmy Johnson win three times (all during championship years), Carl Edwards win twice (Vegas and Phoenix), Tony Stewart win Twice (Vegas and Fontana), Dale JR win at Michigan to end a long race losing streak and Kasey Khane get a huge win at Phoenix. Now that’s not including Nationwide races or the Truck series races. We’re just talking Cup.
So this year, we had some lead changes and once again, Dale JR was leading the race. With 10 laps to go, he was saving gas because he stayed out on the track longer than he probably should of. Meanwhile the #2 car, of a driver I hate to name, started to close in on JR. On the last lap, Dale JR runs out of gas and the #2 gets the win. Now even though I am not a #2 fan, it’s pretty awesome to see a first time win at a track for a driver.
Fast forward to Autoclub. With 30 laps to go, it was looking like Jimmy Johnson was about to win again for the fourth time. Then he wears down a tire and Jeff Gordon takes the lead with Kyle Busch and Clint Boywer closing in. With 2 laps to go, a race caution comes out. That’s where the race conditions are no longer suitable for the cars to continue racing safely.
So, all the cars pit, except for one. Man was it awesome. Anyways, Kyle Busch get’s the win for the 2nd year in a row and I’m super excited. I love going to California. Nothing really beats that race.
So let’s fast forward again to last weekend. The Summitracing.com NHRA Nationals at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Man was it an awesome weekend of racing. New E.T. records, and more.
Well, just like the weekend, and writing all of this, I’m beat. I’ll leave you with a photo gallery and some video’s that sum up the month better than I ever could, and an Ode to Nascar.
Now, an ode to Nascar. Written by Russell Aaron.
“Nascar. Oh how you have been good to me, while playing me like a fool most of the time. Remember the time when you robbed me of seeing my first Kyle Busch win at Las Vegas Motor Speedway? How about the time when Kyle was leading at Autoclub Speedway and he pitted, then it rained and Tony Stewart stayed out to get the win. Not to mention that the Stewart win was the second time I saw him win in 2 weeks. Once at Vegas, and then 2 weeks later at Fontana. We’ll we can skip past all of that because you rewarded me with more than just a Kyle Busch Win. You rewarded me with a KB win and the privilege of watching the race with out ran in California. I love you Nascar. ”
